I have worked in Belle Haven for over 25 years -- long before Meta existed. It does need a good grocery store. But it needs to be the "right" grocery store. Another Cardenas would be great. Or a Grocery Outlet. When a fancy/organic store moved into the Alma Plaza in south Palo Alto it was a big flop. Grocery Outloot does a booming business on the same site. Belle Haven doesn't need a Whole Foods or Molly Stones.

"Amenities"? "Community Benefits"? Really? What's in those feel-good weasel words? This is only a small 59 acre plot. So my guess that nearly all of that $250 million is not being spent on "amenities" or "community benefits" as highly educated people like me would define them. It is being spent upon community essentials like offices, housing, roads, parking, retail and other commercial and community support developments, etc. True amenities would be things like Large parks, Large sports and recreation playing field complexes, Large open spaces, Large restaurant & entertainment complexes, and other land-consuming things that make life worth living in a high-rise high-tech ghetto --- when one is not sleeping at work on the floor under one's desk, of course. IMHO, Meta is just another tech company that overworks its naive young employees. I don't believe anything that they or their supporters have to say. And that's my highly informed OPINION since I've been there and done that for a long time in the Bay Area tech industry. And labeled OPINION is free speech protected by the 1st Amendment.

So Menlo Park must grind a lot more REAL community benefits out of Meta to improve the quality of living of its potential future residents in Belle Haven. After all, Belle Haven means "beautiful place of safety or refuge" in English. How is it possible for a High Tech High Rise Urban Ghetto to be a belle haven and not just another over crowded and emotionally crushing Manhattan ghetto? Only if they're forced to be is the answer. Grind them.

THIS IS MY OPINION. And it is very accurate IMHO.

No more office space in Menlo until they meet housing requirements. Meta deserves most of the blame for the current problem so the city council needs to say NO.
