Would you like a nuclear-free future? Explore how to get there at a free public meeting July 17, 7-9 pm

Original post made by Judy A, Menlo Park, on Jul 11, 2019

Free Public meeting Wed. July 17, 7-9pm, Mitchell Park Library, Midtown Room, 3700 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto 94303. Sponsored by the Peninsula/Palo Alto Women's Intl. League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF).

Are we moving towards a nuclear-free future? The 2017 UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, signed by 122 nations, is pending ratification by 50 of those nations, and as of July 2019, 23 have ratified it. Once ratified, it becomes international law. On April 30, D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced the Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Economic and Energy Conversion Act of 2019 (H-R 2419), which would require the United States to sign and ratify the treaty. Congressional resolutions to divert military spending to the Green New Deal are being debated. Now is the time to ask our political candidates where they stand on getting rid of nuclear weapons. And now is the time for a grassroots effort to support this movement towards a nuclear-free future!
You are invited to join members of local WILPF branches, meet other anti-nuclear activists, and explore these issues. Three WILPF members on tour in CA for a Nuclear-Free Future will describe the efforts of non-governmental organizations (like WILPF) to eliminate nuclear weapons.
