A Bank With Fossil Fuel Free Clean Hands

Original post made by baumgrenze, Triple El, on Jun 12, 2018

Are there any 'clean banks' in Palo Alto with safe deposit boxes?

In 1970 we moved to the Peninsula. Like my employer, we first banked at Wells Fargo at California Avenue and El Camino. By 1975 we left the increasingly impersonal Wells Fargo for San Francisco Federal Savings and Loan. It was on the same side of the street, somewhere between the 'brutalist' Bank of America building and Wells Fargo. At some point they conveniently moved to the corner of California and El Camino across from Wells Fargo. This location now provided a safe deposit box facility, a useful service addition. We liked the team that ran it. In 1996 SF Federal was acquired by First Nationwide; a year later it was called California Federal. In 2002, Citi Bank took over. Inertia more than satisfaction has kept us from finding an alternative. 350.org tells us that the 'too big to fail' banks provide much of the funding needed by the fossil fuel industry, big coal, big oil and oil pipelines.

In 2018 we would like a Palo Alto bank whose hands are not dirty with fossil fuel investments. We'd like the bank to be in Palo Alto. Has anyone found a bank like this?
