Andronico's at Edgewood?

Is this ever going to happen? The article back in September said it was "soon" coming to Edgewood. Define "soon".

I heard thru the grapevine that Fresh Market (corporation) is being sold and that is affecting getting a new store in there.

Did Andronico's pull out because a deal could not be worked out,
or because they believed the site was unsuitable.

It would be a shame if when rent stops coming in from Fresh Market
that the Developer Agency ?? decides to lower their rent ask
and we have to wait years dor something that both sides know
will eventually happen.

Do we know if the maximum fine is being levied against the
Developer Agency at this time or are they being let off the hook?

The City really ought to use every stick and carrot at its disposal
to get something moving here.

The parking lot is crowded at the Edgewood Center (even though Fresh Market is no longer open there). Is this because of Starbuck's and the office on the St. Francis road side of the center?
Otherwise, I can't account for that many cars there, unless people are using the center for a park and ride lot off of 101.
Just wondering how we will be able to park once a NEW grocery takes tenancy there...

Building the structure of a grocery store without the parking to support it seems to me to
be squarely on the City.

The City has done this twice now with Edgewood and Alma Plaza ( ie what used to be
Miki's )

In my opinion this is evidence of institutional incompetence and I would really love for
some paper or journalist or citizen to do some investigation as to how these deals
got done and who thought it would be acceptable build these places.

It seems like a really huge waste of money and we have two places that are going to
be a problem now and for the future.

I am amazed that the successor to Miki's has been there as long as they have, but
I wonder how long is that going to last? Does anyone know how they are doing?

Do the current supermarkets get any input as to restricting the size and viability
of any new place that might want to move into the area? I can't believe they City
made the same mistake again at almost the same time that Miki's was folding
they must have been negotiating the Edgewood deal.

Who is responsible for this?

@Plane Speaker I believe that there was a comment in the press a couple of months ago that Grocery Outlet was doing better than they expected.

The problem with Miki's wasn't parking, it was way too expensive and too limited selection. There was no good reason to shop there if you were already going to Whole Foods, Piazza's, etc.

Miki's was a case of someone who had no real idea of what they were doing. Michael Werness thought that just because he had worked at Berkeley Bowl he could replicate that in Palo Alto. No money and no idea of who he was competing against. Just like $15 dollar gourmet hotdogs.

Who is responsible? All the citizens that complain and demand a tiny supermarket and then never go there.
