Original post made on Dec 4, 2007

Hello. Has anyone noticed the state by state death of our most basic civil liberties?

Is this really a Guest Opinion in the paper? It's not written as well as most Letters to the Editor. Ironically, this does make me think of standards falling, although maybe not in the way the author intended.

How is that GO a "civil liberties" argument? It sounds more like a shrill, chicken little, screed aimed at getting democrats elected. Why would the Weekly publish such trash?

I stopped reading the moment I read that this writer believes that our democratic process, which voted Daschle out of office, was the "first step" in the death of civil liberties. With that kind of thinking, I knew there was no way the rest could get any more factual or reasonable.

I am amazed that this quality of a piece was accepted as a "Guest Opinion". Proof that our free speech civil liberties have not eroded.

Just "googled" Ms. Kraus: Not surprisingly, she is an esteemed blogger for the Huffington Post
