Good article on East Palo Alto City anniversary.

What isn't mentioned is the internal disaster going on with the horrible lack of leadership and the super horrible management.

Recently, Russell Averhart the first employee of the city, 30 years of esteemed service to the city was terminated after the city council saved his job from the cut list. An outstanding employee, well-known in the community and recognized at the 20th anniversary for holding down the city as the interim city manager 7+ times. He graduated with an MBA from USF and came from the County of San Mateo as a management analyst to Finance Director then Operations Director and Assistant City Manager. He out-lasted 9 city managers and made major contributions to East Palo Alto.

On the eve of the City's 30th anniversary community members heard the horrible administration zipped past the sleeping city council and took out Mr. Averhart. Get this, they held a special process of putting two names in a hat/bowl? Sean Charpentier, killer newer staffer, credited with completing the City's Specific Plan, pitted against sr. staffer Mr. Averhart - What a pisser. No witnesses from the SEIU Union nor were the staff allowed to be present to witness the slaughter.

What will we all remember about the city of east palo alto's 30th anniversary? That nothing the leadership or administration does is good for the city. All any resident can hear is that the new city manager and her side-kick minions are apparently the worse. Just ask anyone outside a city council meeting - the city will never change.

It's clear that "Resident One" is unhappy and miserable and they want the world to know it! Maybe they are a former employee?? I think so...People should spend their time being supportive, positive and realize that change happens. There is always discomfort when change happens. People need to learn how to cope. Today is a day of celebration! Let's focus on that! Have a great day... proud residents of East Palo Alto!!
