Is Duveneck School the next Mitchell Park Library?

Original post made by Bob , Community Center, on Jul 24, 2013

Is Duveneck School another Mitchell Park Library fiasco? I pass there several times a day., and I don't see any escalated - hurry-school-will-be- starting-progress in a few weeks or even this year. The number of workers seems to be very minimal and progress extremely slow. School begins in about three weeks. There is barely a playground, and walkways are piled with equipment and materials. Would some on the Board or the District please comment.
What is the schedule?

My son who will be in fourth grade this fall said they told him they would be the first 5th grade class to use the second level of the new building . . . he's looking forward to it . . .

If the buildings are not out gassed before school starts there could be obnoxious and possibly carcinogenic fumes that the kids have to breathe. I certainly hope that any building they do using solvents is done with enough lead time to allow for out gassing thereby creating a safe atmosphere for the kids to breathe in.

It actually looks like there's finally been some decent progress at the Mitchell Park Library the last couple of months. Believe it or not, I think they might actually be able to make their latest forecast and open it in November.

According to the monthly project report on the PAUSD web site, the Duveneck project just started in June and is expected to be completed in July 2014, a year from now. There is a new classroom building and "modernization." Not sure how much is supposed to be done by the time school starts.

Major projects are being delivered for the new school year at Gunn (new gym, giant new classroom building), Paly (football facility), Terman, JLS, Jordan, and Fairmeadow. The Paly classroom project appears to be a problem child, though still on track for completion next school year.

My child went to elementary school in another city. The school had a horrible epidemic of head lice, and was supposed to be fumigated over Xmas vacation that year.

What they actually did was fumigate the school three days before it was supposed to reopen, and the tents came off the morning of the first day back! Some teachers and most of the kids were sickened by fumes.

Threats and lawsuits ensued, but the judge threw them all out, saying that you can't get blood from a turnip. The school district was role, and not even medical bills were reimbursed by the school or the district!

That could happen here!

Don't miss out on the discussion!
