Original post made on Apr 4, 2013

"We're not building a phone," Mark Zuckerberg said April 4, finally putting to rest months of rumors. What Facebook has done, however, is build what they bill as "the best version of Facebook there is."

I've notice that I'm using FB less these days. In the three years that I have had it, I have only bought one item from the ads. Also, I'm tired of the pictures of your baby every two days. I don't need to know your at Starbucks or the movies. I don't need to look at all your posters or cute sayings. Bored and maybe done.

A lot of people seem to be aging out of FaceBook these days. Once they are out of college and fully employed, they no longer have time for it. Also, as unemployed people are being rehired, they no longer have time for it.

It seems FB has become a pubescent thing these days.

Facebook users and usage is evolving in my experience. The younger people are no longer using it to announce their daily trivia, but they are still checking in. The older demographics are using it more to be kept up to date with news media, sharing books, recipes, shared interest groups, interesting articles and nostalgia. It is far from its demise.

It is true that seniors with time on their hands may be "aging into" Facebook. Funny, huh, for a company that doesn't like to hire people over 27.

Most of us " in-betweeners" just do not have the time. For me, it is a once every two weeks thing.

I read that the younger crowd is looking for something else other than Facebook. Why? Because they want a social network that their parents are not their friends.

When is Facebook going to realize that it's not the center of the universe? It may be for high-school girls, but for the rest of us who use smartphones for productivity, we don't want it to take over our screen. It's nice to see what my friends have posted every couple of days, but I certainly don't want it to dominate the use of the phone I rely on for business and other more important processes.

Grow up, Facebook. Force yourself on us and you're going to fail.
