Palo Alto needs your opinion on sustainability initiatives and communications!

Original post made by Member, Stanford, on May 11, 2023

Hi there, I'm a third-year student at Stanford working with the City of Palo Alto's Office of Sustainability to gather information on the residents and business-owners' perspectives on sustainability issues, the city's sustainability initiatives, and communications! The link to the survey is here:

Web Link

We would love to hear from all, but especially those who aren't as vocal about these issues!

Thanks for doing this. Please read the comments here Web Link over the threatened lawsuit over gas conversion.

Most people DON'T want it.

Please report back on your findings. I'm so tired of PA basing decisions on a very small minority -- a few hundred out of 66,000 -- filling out its surveys, many of which are technically flawed.

Thanks for creating and publicizing this survey! However, looking through the survey, there is no option to add free-form comment or response options not pre-selected by the survey creators. Lack of such options has been a common complaint of City of Palo Alto surveys in the past and can severely limit the usability or even validity of the survey.

In the future, why not first talk with a variety of at least dozens of residents to see if they mention answer options or issues that haven't been considered? For example, issues about possible extreme costs in certain gas appliance conversions, or going without hot water or heat for weeks/months of a permitting/building process if a gas appliance fails but is not allowed to be replaced with a gas replacement.
