Tesla to open global engineering HQ in Palo Alto

Original post made on Feb 23, 2023

Marking a thawing of his sometimes fractious relationship with the Golden State, Elon Musk announced Wednesday that Tesla Motors is going to base its global engineering and AI headquarters in Palo Alto at the former HP campus.

Love the photo. Thoughtful executive with a plan ... and then there's the governor with hands in his pockets.

I'm guessing Tesla engineers decided they didn't want to move to Texas, especially the female ones given Texas' stance on a woman's right to choose.

Not happy to see Musk come crawling back to blue CA. (Mr. Take-Over-Twitter-to-tell-people-to-vote Republican.) I predict Tesla has hit its peak, because Musk alienated so many would-be buyers with his antics at Twitter, including myself. As well, there are plenty of other long-range EV choices now.

Not so happy with Musk moving Tesla back to CA. But the EV market is centered in coastal California and with 2035 looming where only EVs can be sold in CA, it makes sense to have R&D be in CA.
As for woman’s right to choose, likely Tesla (and all other businesses) is better off with more people in the world/more potential customers.

Tesla never left Palo Alto. The “HQ” move to Texas was a handful of people. They kept their Palo Alto offices and expanded to the HP site. More corporate spin and tax planning than anything else. Happy to have them here in the EV City.

Tesla engineering didn't leave Palo Alto. They were always in the same place and the engineers have been working here. Technical descriptions of HQ and Engineering HQ.

What Tom above said. Tesla never left. It was all for tax planning and a bit of politics.
I sure hope that Page Mill is not going to be blocked in the mornings with even more traffic; and I also really hope that the added staff support our local restaurants for lunch rather then have their own cafeteria...

Yes love the picture of the Gov with his hands in his pockets as he licks his lips. Well done to those who spotted it and pointed it out.

The Governor should not be able to capitalize on this.
And yes, the tax situation in CA IS ridiculous, Silicon Valley is taken advantage of by CA legislature like a “cash cow.”
Unappreciated, too.
In fact, criticized for success in offering high paying jobs; they give these politicians the tax revenues to enact many of their outlandish bills.
Then the insistence that built up jobs rich cities be penalized by requiring the shoe-horning in of dense housing as a penalty.
Most people don’t live and work in the same city, whether high, medium, or low income earners.

It's so wonderful to see such a caring and concerned CEO expanding here in Palo Alto! One only has to look at his track record in violating Covid regulations at his Fremont factory packing in so many workers they all got sick, the way he's refused to pay his Twitter San Francisco landlords, the way he fired so many Twitter emnployees and the way he's amplified his own tweets to appear more popular than they are.

Such a great example for the youth of Palo Alto!
