During the weeks of storms, it was encouraging to me to see how people were helping neighbors and others. There were many who filled sandbags and delivered them to elderly residents and similar good deeds. Unfortunately, there were those who complained that their nearby street drains were blocked with leaves and expected the City to do something when it would have been much quicker if somebody just went out with a rake to clear their nearest drain.
The weather we have experienced in the first few weeks of the year is unprecidented but not surprising since climate is cyclable and rain will come again. But with all this talk about climate, it seems right that everyone should be out doing what they can to help. Once a tree branch is stuck in overhead wires I think that is the job of a professional City crew, but we can all pick up a fallen branch outside our property and put it in the green bin so that someone with a stroller, wheelchair or vision problems can get by.
