Question: Does Prop 30 also become a de facto additional tax on the sale of homes? For people earning $2 million/year, it’s one thing, but people earning below the median who are the “house poor” generally put everything into their homes. It becomes their retirement savings. This kind of additional tax is a real burden for them. I regretfully had to vote NO on 30. Given that and Gavin Newsom telling people to vote NO on 30, that’s what we did.

This point came up on KQED. Doesn’t seem to be any provision to protect ordinary homeowners who don’t make a lot of money and essentially need their retirement funded from the sale of their homes.
