Was she booked and released or is she still in county jail? It might be interesting to do an article on how effective the process is in the county - how many people arrested for major retail theft spend any time in jail on arrest, how many disappear (outstanding warrants) prior to prosecution after being released on bail, and whether or not the DA's office secures convictions for those they can find later. It would seem that the current retail theft wave won't dissipate until that process works effectively, or at least Santa Clara gets known for being more effective than other counties in the region and therefore a less attractive target.
