This is excellent news. As the fire season grows the demands on our fire personnel intensifies. Kudos to the city for crafting the successful grant. Now hire firefighters within the 180 day window.

It is past time to make firefighters actually show up and work in shifts just like police officers. It is crazy to pay these people to sleep, shop and eat while on the job. No one else gets such perks these days.

They should work a shift that is filled with duties that include fire fighting, but since it rarely happens they should have other civic duties to preform. I'm sure the city manager and staff can find paper work, inspection duties, compliance issues and many things they could help with. It is already difficult for residents to get the city to respond, how about we let the rarely working fire fighters help out.

They also seem to mostly provide an ambulance service. A job that can be easily outsourced to companies that also pay people to work a real shift and not eat and sleep on the job.

Maybe they can hire a few EMTs to help fill the positions quickly and send them to the Firefighters academy?
