Throughout the Peninsula, this Juneteenth will be celebrated in a variety of ways, with a barbecue, scholarships, performances, talks, a cooking demonstration and festivities in parks and fairgrounds on tap. Here's where to go.

Why are these federally recognized holidays (with paid time-off) reserved only for government and bank employees?

Everyone in America should benefit from them as well.

ALL federally recognized holidays should be paid holidays for ALL employees working in America and only essential services (grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations) should remain open with triple-time holiday pay for the workers involved.

Better yet...American companies should offer 3 month paid vacations as they do in many modern and western European countries.

Paid holidays would then become an afterthought.
