Bill Gates actually predicted in 2015 a lethal worldwide pandemic back during a TedTalk. Going back every further, Dr. Larry Brilliant predicted in 2006 a zoonotic-based pandemic . He should know since he helped stop smallpox. We are very fortunate that organizations and leaders like Bill Gates are willing to invest considerable time and money in producing vaccines. To indicate how quickly things are moving, even Bill would have to now cite the new research coming out of Neil King's lab in Seattle that they may have yet another more potent vaccine formula ready in the next six months that is more stable and easier to produce at global scale. One can only hope. Thank you for sharing this interview with Bill Gates. Good article.

Bill Gates has a business relationship with China. And yes - he is a globalist. He contributes to the organization that is in Ethiopia - the World Health Organization.

He is of the thought that the US should be sending money all over the world to help them.

Why do these people keep forgetting that there is the European Union which controls all of the countries that are members. It controls their finances. They collectively are bigger than the US. Why isn't he focusing on what the EU should be doing for their own countries, as well as the countries around the world that are their former colonies. HIs clout is in China - not the EU.

Scott Z. Burns, the writer of the screenplay for the movie "Contagion," predicted it back in the 2000s.

>"Bill Gates actually predicted in 2015 a lethal worldwide pandemic back during a TedTalk."

^ So with all of his billions & 'vision', why wait until 2020 to declare himself a clairvoyant?

>"He is of the thought that the US should be sending money all over the world to help them."

^ Charity begins at home as the United States has enough internal economic & social issues to contend with.

Perhaps Mr. Gates can send a personal contribution to all of the nations 'in need'...he can easily afford to.

This is a thoughtful, balanced discussion by someone who knows what he is talking about, and yet still defers to the scientists for guidance.
The Gates foundation is a model of how a wealthy individual can contribute greatly to global health.
He has summarized the disastrous policies of our current administration succintly, and it is refreshing to cut through all the noise and see a vision for moving forward.
i hope our new president will utilize him as a resource.
Thank you, Dean Minor, for bringing him to Stanford!

Mr. Gates and wife recently bought a beach house in Del Mar - that is in SOCAL. I suspect that the city of Seattle is no longer a beautiful place or a desirable state to live in.

The Matson shipping line has moved their base of operations in that state from Seattle to Tacoma. Shipping lines which are continually moving need to have a predictable and solid location to maintain schedule as well as have a workforce for service at dock. Mr. Gates needs to first address his state - he has allowed it to fall apart and go into disrepair.

Mr. Gates has aligned himself with a noted travel agent/TV personality in which they produced a "documentary" on Guatemala and Ethiopia - somehow conflating their issues. In Guatemala the documentary focused on the highland Mayan population. However the main business in that country in the lowland agricultural operations run by transnational corporations - note Dole that has it's corporate offices in CA - Westlake Village, Ventura County. Mr. Gates has circled the wagon on the Hawaiian aspects of transnational corporations and their operations in Hawaii - going back to it's territorial status.

Ethiopia is headquarters for the World Health Organization. The travel documentary focused on the "emerging nation" aspects of that country. It is not an emerging nation - it goes back to control in Africa of major developments from the beginning of human evolution.

The concerns of the Gates Foundation are complicated and unclear. Many underlying issues - relationship to China from a business perspective. I don't trust that whole operation.

^ With all of his disposable income, Gates could probably afford to do a tad more...perhaps on a more 'localized' scale (aka community) and the same might be said of Jeff Bezos of Amazon who has profited quite well off the pandemic.

> "I don't trust that whole operation."

^ Some folks feel/felt the same way about
Microsoft & it's questionable business practices.

Like to note that the Gates got married on the island of Lanai - a major pineapple operation then owned by Dole. Dole is a private company - now booted off Lanai by "the Larry" -of Oracle fame. He bought most of the island and displaced many local people who worked on that plantation island. Dole functions world wide and typically imports immigration labor vs using local population. In Thailand they are using Myanmar workers. In Guatemala they import workers from the other Caribbean islands.

The Central American countries have extensive port systems and RR's for moving product which is time sensitive. Also the Panama Canal has been and is a major transportation center going back to the gold rush days of CA.
