There is a solution – Rank Choice Voting. RCV allows every voter to rank their choices among the candidates for a given office rather than selecting just one. RCV gives candidates outside of the two major parties an opportunity to win office. It encourages all candidates to seek consensus beyond their respective parties while reducing muck-raking tactics, gives underrepresented voters a voice, encourages voter turnout, allows one to vote for their favorite candidate without fear of splitting the vote or voting for the least offensive.
Four states and the cities of San Francisco, San Leandro and Oakland use RCV. There have been no problems counting ballots. Is it not time to improve our election system and politics?
