this type of theft occurs all the time. my question is how did the witness know a theft was occurring? did the witness know for a fact that the merchandise was not paid for? how did witness know a crime was being committed? just because a group of female shoppers are taking merchandise outside of a department store doesn't imply a theft in my opinion.

Maybe the witnessed noticed there’s strange abnormal behavior not a kin to mow shoppers in the area

Some possible hints that a group of women are stealing from a store:
1. They are seen rapidly gathering large quantities of merchandise without trying on any of it.
2 They haven’t gone to the checkout to pay for any of it.
3. They don’t have Macy’s shopping bags with the merchandise in it as they exit the door. (OK — maybe they are environmentally conscious?)
4. They are running out the door with armloads of merchandise.
5. For good measure: They kick you in the buttocks.

^ Sounds like a Jeff Foxworthy routine. "If you ..., you might be a shoplifter."
