Fletcher Middle School’s Jordan Affeld and JLS’ Julien Chow were two of the seven members of the Stanford Water Polo Foundation to play with the Pacific Zone Red team, which earned a bronze medal at the Olympic Development Program National Tournament in Riverside over the weekend.

Pacific Zone Red beat NEZ, 9-8, in the third-place match. NEZ downed Pac Red, 16-14, during pool play.

Pac Red reached the championship finals, losing a tough 9-8 decision to CST Red. SPA Red throttled CST Red, 12-3, in the gold-medal contest.

In earlier games, Pacific Red swamped Hawai’i, 24-1 and edged CST Blue, 10-9.

Joining Affeld and Chow were Stanford club’s Hassen Hove, Tommy Kiesling, Phillip Long, Luca Peralta and Nicholas Verstak.

At the Youth level, Pacific Red beat PSW 13-12 for the bronze. Sacred Heart Prep freshman goalie Griffen Price played with team alongside Stanford club team members Greg Hilderbrand (Menlo) and Berk Aksoy (St. Francis).

Menlo goalie Josh Poulos and Knights teammate Connor MacMitchell played with Pacific Blue.

At the Cadet level, Pacific Red placed fourth, losing to PSW, 12-10, in the bronze-medal game. Stanford WP club’s Michael Fang and Jacob Tsotadze played for Red and Marcus Kuo was on Pacific Blue’s roster.

The ODP Girls National Championship is set for Riverside on March 15-17.

  1. Just keep them away from Bruno; he’ll kill their love of the game in a heartbeat. IF he’s coaching at Stanford, make sure your kids are in another group.
