I can't begin to express how happy I am that this deal is now final -- Pets in Need is such a wonderful organization. Thanks to the Council for its unanimous decision!

Thank you to everyone who worked to make this happen. Palo Alto Animal Services has a dismal track record in saving the lives of our homeless pets. With Pets In Need in charge, saving animals' lives will become a top priority. Kudos to the many people who worked for nearly 5 years to effect positive change at PAAS. Many of these people and their efforts are unknown to most.

Not to be negative, but-- although this doesn't affect me personally, I have heard complaints about some of these more activist pet organizations denying pet adoptions to perfectly self-sufficient seniors. I've heard of this happening to acquaintances. In one case, I heard -yes, this is hearsay- that someone I know in their 60's was denied a pet because (paraphrase) "your pet might outlive you". IF this actually is happening, it is incredibly stupid and needs to stop. And, yes, I understand that they need to make sure an animal can be cared for properly.
