Ideo's Barbecue

Original post made by HMM, Old Palo Alto, on Nov 16, 2018

With the discussion about school closures, spare the air, I can't resist pointing out that Ideo had a barbecue on High Street yesterday. They had six or seven Weber kettles smoking away. A bit tone deaf.

Ideos had a business to run. No Weber kettles smoking away = no revenue.

Blame the customers as well...they comprise the dining market and their hankering for Q also contributed to this questionable undertaking on a critical 'spare the air day'.

In addition, look at all the single car drivers that were on the road that day...as if they actually gave a crap. The same went for commercial airliners.

People tend to live in their own world of individual priorities...eating spareribs, driving unnecessarily, hopping a plane to Maui etc.

Hmmm. Ideo is a design company not a restaurant.

Better to take in the pleasant aroma (and smoke) of barbecued ribs and chicken than that of burnt lumber, countless chemicals and industrial plastics.

People have to eat. Might as well be something yummy.

A company barbecue on a spare the air day? Are they clueless or what?

Over the past two days I have had to ask two gardeners in the neighborhood I walk through (to catch Cal Train) to stop using their gas blowers. They were blowing a few leaves, a lot of dirt, with their gas blowers.

I have also had to ask someone to stop burning multiple sticks of incense in their backyard.

It seems incredible how disconnected some people are to what is going on.

I wouldn't feel at all ashamed at confronting the Ideo employees about their burning.

Sometimes it helps to be bi-lingual (at least in our neighborhood).

A possible freedom of religion issue...or perhaps a spiritual quest.

And people continue to have children in an overpopulated world.
