This is such a tragedy; I hope there is healing help for the victim in all of this. Be strong, and let your life well-lived be your victory over this. It was not your fault.
Teachers: When something is not right, whether it's about sexual abuse or something else, be an upstander. Err on the side of protecting students and families. As Kim Diorio learned, it's not enough to just punt concerns up the chain of command because our administration has not been trustworthy and may even be a part of the problem as they were here. (In fact, do not let yourself be used to retaliate against a child or a family who have already been hurt and isolated.)
Situations just like this happen with and without sexual abuse (the abuse can be emotional). You have tenure. Don't just expect someone else to do something.
