This is why we need good cell phone service in Palo Alto. To all you NIMBYs who are fighting against new cell phone transmitters for health reasons, the best thing you can do is not sleep with your phone. Also, turn it off when you are driving. Cell phone towers are a tremendous public service during situations like power failures.

It is windy in Silicon Valley and the power goes out!

Why are we not undergrounding our power lines?

When we moved into our Eichler in 2005, we were told that the power lines in our backyard were going underground in a few years. Still waiting but not holding our breaths.

This is why residents need to fight against big telecom monopolies building cell towers all over town. They are much taller than power poles, imagine the chaos if one of those fell down in this wind storm!

Cell towers function during power outages until their batteries give out. Landline phones have much larger energy resources so they keep going.

Because the Silicon Valley is making the technology of 2050s with the infrastructure of 1950s. Scalability of 140 characters data pipeline will not change the world.

Landlines only work during power outages if they are the old types of phone with a cord!
