I just listened to Cathy Jordan read a letter from the victim of the "church" assault to the Board. I would like to thank that brave young woman for coming forward and thank her mother for sharing that letter. I agree with the mother of the victim that a young assault victim should not have had the responsibility for ensuring the safety of Paly students.

At this time, when the Trump administration is rolling back the protection of students at school to be safe from sexual harassment and assault, it is important for everyone to stand up and defend Title IX. If the federal government will not hold schools accountable for ensuring that Title IX rights are protected, then it falls to the democratic process to do so.

I would like to thank Cathy for sharing that letter, commend the young victim, and apologize to her and her mother for the fact that she was forced to come forward twice -- once against her perpetrator and once again to protect the girls of this district. In my experience, accountability is essential to ensuring that student rights are protected and I appreciate Cathy's comments in that regard.

Sorry, but according to the Oct. 11, 2016 victim's mother, what you've reported is somewhat misleading. According to the victim's mother, the Oct. 11, 2016 victim reported sexual assault to Kim Diorio, Vicki Kim and Jonathan Frecceri on Oct. 14, 2016. In fact, the victim's mother says that Vicki Kim and Jonathan Frecceri called her to tell her that her daughter had been sexually assaulted, on Oct. 14, 2016, when her daughter reported the incident to them. The way you are reporting this casts doubt on whether the incident was actually consensual or not, and also casts doubt on whether the victim reported it immediately as sexual assault or not. There is no doubt about this, according to the victim's mother; she was both assaulted, and also reported sexual assault.
