Local teenagers will share what it’s like to grow up in Silicon Valley at a panel discussion this Wednesday, Jan. 4, hosted by Palo Alto nonprofit Children’s Health Council (CHC).

Five teens attending local public and private schools will talk about “opportunities, challenges and concerns” growing up in this region, according to an event description.

The panel will be moderated by Ramsey Khasho, director of The Center at CHC, and Anna Parnes, a child and adolescent psychiatrist with the Children’s Health Council. The nonprofit is encouraging parents and teachers as well as teenagers to attend.

“The goal of the panel is to give teens a higher platform where their voice and needs can be heard and where we can all learn a thing or two about the local teen experience,” Khasho wrote in an email.

The free panel is the latest in a series of classes and events Children’s Health Council launched in 2016 to increase awareness and education around topics related to youth mental illness, as part of its new Teen Mental Health Initiative.

On Jan. 11, a panel of local suicide survivors, including Palo Alto community members, who spoke candidly about their experiences in November will return to speak on a second panel at the Children’s Health Council.

The “Being a Teen in the Valley” panel will be held at the Children’s Health Council, 650 Clark Way, Palo Alto, from 6:30-8 p.m. To register, go to eventbrite.com.

  1. Thanks Elena. What a great way to help support our teens- by listening to them. I’m looking forward to hearing what they have to say. CHC’s Teen Mental Health Initiative is invaluable for our community.
