Police Surround Home

Original post made by Concerned, Old Palo Alto, on Nov 25, 2016

On Wednesday evening, at approximately 5:15 pm, four police cars were parked with lights flashing at the corner of Waverley and Tennyson. Two police cars were parked on Waverley, two on Tennyson. The officer in the car closest to the apex of the corner exited his car, pulled his gun out of its holster, and aimed it at the house.

When I returned two hours later, there was a fire engine parked on the Tennyson side of the house, but what her drama appeared to be over.

No one seems to know anything about this, although there were a few witnesses; nothing has appeared online or in print.

Could PAPD have trapped a burglar inside the house?

Wait for Monday and see whether anything shows up in the PAPD log -- Web Link

Hi Concerned.

Palo Alto Police Lt. Zach Perron said officers were pursuing package thieves (misdemeanor). They caught two of the three suspects, and one also had a warrant.

My brother, a police captain in NYC, was interested to hear that this is being considered a misdemeanor.

According to him, any theft of mail or packages is a federal offense, and thus a felony.

Seeing PAPD with guns drawn and pointed at a house, we thought someone had taken a hostage inside!

Tell your brother it's only a felony if it was delivered by the US Mail, or above a specific value. Thank him for his service as a cop and remind him to consult the DA when he has questions.

If the PA police KNEW they were attempting to catch package thiefs, why did they have to surround the house with four squad cars? Why did the officers have their guns drawn and aimed?

This makes it sound a if they were waiting for an armed burglar to come blasting his way out of the house!
