Way to go Class of 2014!!!!

Congratulations to the grads and their families. Wish the grads all the best in their endeavors wherever that may be.

The culture at Gunn certainly does not promote kindness or individuality. Competition is king, and that is the message the kids get, but maybe by the time they graduate they have learned differently.

Unfortunately, kindness does not get one into a good college or a good job.

@"Truth is..": Makes me sad to see people continue to badmouth this school. My kid was one of the Seniors that graduated yesterday. And we've witnessed nothing but kindness over the last four years. Kindness goes a long way "Truth is..", you might want to try it some time...

We're going through with our third Gunn student and, over many years, have found Gunn a place of support and caring. Also tough and demanding, but that is what we signed up for. The support and caring has been a pleasant surprise. Sure, not always that way. But more often than not.

I reject the notion that Gunn does not promote kindness and individuality. By the way the class of 68 is getting together this weekend because we still enjoy seeing one another - keep in touch with each other as you move down the road of life.

Gunn may not promote kindness or caring, but its emphasis on competition is not without virtues. Whether it's dealing with even more competitive college classes or in life in general, the willingness developed at Gunn to step over the heads of your peers to climb to the top is what gets us places. Of course, that one guy who comes up with the next Apple, or Facebook, or even Flappy Bird will be more impactful, and, at the very least, make a lot more money than everyone else, but who's to say that that's you? You can be very good with lots of hard work and dedication, but you won't be great unless you got really lucky. And, chances are, you're not that lucky.
