Midtown also has the Palo Alto Animal Services (PAAS) shelter right across 101 on Bayshore between the Embarcadero/Oregon Expressway and San Antonio exits.
In the month of December any adult animal has just a $12 adoption fee! They have some wonderful dogs, cats, puppies, and rabbits. My favorite homeless pet is Bronco the dog. I found him on Greer Road and I am on a PR campaign to find him a permanent home. More info about Bronco on the PAAS website and on this FB post:

Open: Monday - Saturday, 11:00am - 5:30pm, except holidays. Closed every other Friday.
We lived in Midtown the first couple of years we lived in Palo Alto. I thought it was an upgrade to move north of Oregon. Boy, was I wrong. In Midtown we had friendly neighbors and everyone knew and talked to each other.
In OPA, we have stuffy neighbors who look down on us because we are not opulent conspicuous consumers. We have a smaller house, a smaller lot, and a lot more party noise on weekends and holidays
Wish we had stayed in Midtown. Someday we'll move back.
