Please can we get the ugly back sides of buildings away from the street

Original post made by Resident, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Dec 5, 2013

I would like to return to seeing the fronts of buildings from the street, not the sides or the backs. All buildings have a service entrance and ugly parts, which should not be seen from the street by passers by. The front of a building is not only the entrance, but the part of the building that people see as they are driving, riding or walking by. Therefore the elegant frontage should be at the front, not hidden from view to all but those entering the building.

I have never been in many beautiful buildings, but I can judge them as being beautiful as I pass by the front. If they were back to front with the back on view and the front hidden away, they would never be called beautiful. Beautiful buildings have to be seen by those who pass them as well as those who enter them.

I completely agree with you and would like Palo Alto to stop allowing blind walls, for example, on building sides facing the street.
