Valley Key to Chinese Tech Giant - PA on Page Mill Road

Original post made by resident, Charleston Meadows, on Nov 20, 2013

In the SF Chronicle 11/20/13, Bloomberg Report is an article about the Chinese Suning Commerce Group opening a temporary office in the Page Mill / El Camino Corridor. There was a ceremony Tuesday to commemorate this. This is coordinated through the Bay Area Council. They are looking for a permanent site of up to 40,000 Square feet. This is going to be a large operation - eventually 200 personnel involved in R&D, high performance computing, banking, back-office capabilities, E-Commerce, etc. This is a major company on the Chinese stock exchange. Their intention is to become the world's biggest E-Commerce market.
Would appreciate some articles on how the CC and PA Planning Department is coordinating this effort.

200 employees is a pretty small office. I assume they are leasing an existing office building that is already zoned for office use, so the city has no say in the matter. There is lots of empty space along Page Mill (where Facebook used to have thousands of workers). I wonder what Fox News says about the Chinese moving into Silicon Valley?

This does not qualify as a non-profit start-up. This is a big-boy group. No special deals here please.

A CC member (vise-mayor) has been to China twice with the intent to sponsor a Chinese trade group / technology oriented company for PA. Those trips where in conjunction with SF and Oakland officials - both mayors. I believe that this is the result of those trips. Need some article of confirmation from CC as to the coordination of this activity, what to expect, and what else is in the planning stages.

Article in SF Chronicle today that the Ambassador to China is stepping down and Mayor Lee of SF is in contention for that position. Steve Westly, Menlo Park, is another contender.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
