It angers me that the US Post Office donated a lot of money to the bike races. That is taxpayer money and the post office is complaining of budget issues. We should now be scrutinizing where tax payer money goes to a government organization that has nothing to do with the government organizations overall mission.

The USPS does not receive any taxpayer money.

If the US Postal Service goes over budget and has huge pension payments pending, do you not think the US taxpayer will be on the hook for those payments...even if USPS is "supposed" to be self-supporting, haven't they received subsidies or some such from Congress? - just wondering.
Back when it was the US Postal Service team (Armstrong's bicycle team), I DID wonder why they were sponsoring...was an analysis done that the expenditure of funds did indeed pay off for USPS, regardless of how we quibble whether it is public or private.

And how is that any different than GM? Or the banks?
