Today’s (July 15) protest organized by the California Nurses Association in front of the Atherton home of Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman ended at 1:45 p.m., about 30 minutes after it began.

“The crowd is leaving and taking all their signs back with them,” said Palo Alto Weekly reporter Georgia Wells. “In 15 minutes, you won’t be able to tell anything happened.”

The protestors boarded buses that were parked on Oak Grove and Ringwood avenues.

Police said there were no arrests and no violent incidents.

During the short demonstration, hundreds of protestors filled the street, marching back and forth and chanting with a drummer: “Hey, Whitman, you can’t hide, we can see your greedy side.”

Whitman was not at home, but at a campaign event in Ontario, Calif., her campaign announced.

  1. As a nurse at the protest today, I would just like to say that it was meant to be fairly short and sweet. It takes a long time to move 1100 nurses on and off buses, and I would like to thank the neighbors for their patience. As nurses, we are all concerned with patient safety. If our ratios are changed, this may not be the case. Our protest today was to let CA know how We CA RN’s feel about her policies.
