I agree with you, this story is so Palo Alto. I am actually surprised that they were able to install the fence--if the neighbors would have found out about it beforehand it would have been subjected to a 1-2 year delay while the neighbors discussed it, environmental impact reports were prepared and the city council waited to vote until they figured out which way the NIMBy wind was blowing.

i loved the title also of the woman who was whining about the fence--civic affairs committee chair for the Greenmeadow Community Association!!!

Maybe the buildings in Cubberly center should be torn down since they impede Greenmeadow residents from directly getting to Charleston Center.

But it is not too late to do something about the fence--I suggest a petition drive to put this pressing matter on the ballot in november.

Not everyone is young, you know. That can be an arduous distance to someone with a heart condition.

Joyce is right--in order to accomodate all the PA residents that have heart conditions all fences, even those, in private homes, should be torn down so that distances will no longer be arduous.

so person with the heart condition walked the distance from the greenmeadow neighborhood through the cubberley athletic fields, passed the community center buildings buys heavy groceries that they had to take back home and the extra hundred feet is going to impact them.

Well, I did need something to laugh about today, so the PA process is good for something after all!

Maybe closing the fence to impact the hypothetical heart patient's ability to get to Rick's Rather Rich Ice Cream Parlor will extend his/her life.

This might have been a very noble re-fencing when you consider that possibility. ;^)

Thank you for making me laugh this cold friday morning. After living in Palo Alto for 26 years- I could not agree with you more!! Oh, you forgot the "lets have a study to see if we need a study".

You are right, Jim, I forgot that. Also the city will nee to hire consultants to look into the feasiblitiy of studying whether a study is needed in orde rto study whether a fenc should be erected at the shopping center.
I will contact the civic affairs committee chair for the Greenmeadow Community Association immediately to start galvanizing the neighborhood about this issue. Maybe other so-called Neighborhood leader can get involved also.
