Second half push leads to Los Altos boys basketball win

Mountain View boys also win in SCVAL hoops

Jake Skaggs scored 30 points and the Los Altos boys basketball team downed visiting Cupertino 58-44 in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division contest Friday night.

Andrew Reilly added 10 points for the Eagles (12-2, 3-0), who play at Mountain View on Tuesday night.

Los Altos trailed 24-22 at halftime and then scored the first 10 points of the third quarter, eight by Skaggs, to take the lead for good.

Mountain View (10-4, 2-0) beat host Santa Clara 53-42 on Friday.

In the Peninsula Athletic League South Division, Menlo-Atherton (6-4, 2-0) downed Sequoia (4-9, 1-1) 68-31, and Carlmont (7-5, 2-0) beat Woodside (3-9, 1-1) 50-30.

Allen Chang led M-A with 12 points and Jalen Williams added 11. Trevor Sato scored nine for the Ravens. Luke Buddie led Woodside with 12 points.

Girls basketball

Macy Watson scored 15 points and Los Altos beat visiting Lynbrook in a SCVAL De Anza Division game Friday.

Tessa Player added 12 points for Los Altos (10-3, 2-2), which plays at Los Gatos on Wednesday night.

The Eagles held Lynbrook without a field goal over the first 11 minutes.

Valentina Saric scored 27 points in Priory's 56-48 loss to South Medford (7-1) as part of the St. Mary's Martin Luther King Showcase in Stockton. Sunishka Kartik added 10 points for Priory (5-5), which plays Antelope (8-3) on Saturday at St. Mary's.

St. Francis fell to host St. Ignatius 49-34 in a West Catholic Athletic League contest Friday night. The Lancers (10-3, 0-2) host Monta Vista in a non-league game Monday afternoon.

Sequoia (9-5, 2-0) edged Menlo-Atherton (7-5, 0-1) 41-39 in a PAL South Division contest. Freshman Avary Sheldon led the Bears with 13 points while senior Venise Sanft added 12 and sophomore Fiona Steinmetz had 10.

Senior Mary Jane Hartman led Sequoia with 15 points and freshman Nohe'alani Stores had 11.

Emma Kinder scored 11 points but Woodside fell to Carlmont 53-36.

In the West Bay Athletic League, Pinewood topped Menlo 74-31 and Crystal Springs Uplands beat The King's Academy 49-38 in Foothill Division action.

Elle Ladine led Pinewood with 21 points and 16 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. Emily Lee added 17 points and Skylar Chui recorded 12 rebounds.

Jade Ramirez scored all 12 of her points on 3-pointers and added six assists. Alex Facelo and Tatiana Collazo each had 9 points.

Shannon Li and Sharon Nejad each had eight points for Menlo and combined for 15 rebounds.

In the Skyline Division, Sacred Heart Prep beat Castilleja 36-32 and Eastside Prep's game with Notre Dame San Jose was postponed.

Billy Thompson, with an assist from Jack Cushman, scored an insurance goal in the second half and Sacred Heart Prep beat visiting Menlo 2-0 in a West Bay Athletic League match Friday.

Thomas Sullivan opened the scoring with an assist from Luke Maxwell.

The Gators (5-3-1, 3-0) play at Crystal Springs Uplands on Wednesday while Menlo (2-3-2, 0-1) hosts Eastside Prep, which lost at Priory, 1-0.

Harker's match at The King's Academy was postponed.

Mountain View beat host Palo Alto 2-0 in a SCVAL De Anza Division match. The Spartans (8-1-1, 3-0-1) play at Wilcox on Tuesday night. Palo Alto (3-2-2, 0-1-1) is at Santa Clara on Wednesday.

Arya Hatami scored a goal but Los Altos fell to host Los Gatos 2-1 in another SCVAL match Friday.

Woodside (7-3, 1-1) dropped a tough 1-0 decision to host Burlingame (9-0-1, 2-0) in a PAL Bay Division match Friday and Menlo-Atherton fell 2-1 at Aragon.

In the PAL Ocean Division, Sequoia scored all of its goals in the second half to beat visiting Hillsdale 3-0.

Benjamin Schwartz, Dylan Bardsley and Diego Jimenez each scored while Ryan McDowell recorded a pair of assists for the Ravens. Jose Sanchez also had an assist.

Mountain View remained unbeaten with its 5-1 victory over Palo Alto in a SCVAL match Friday night.

Stanford-bound Allie Montoya scored twice for the Spartans (11-0-1, 5-0), who play at Santa Clara next Friday. Julia Webster and Abby Westcott also scored for Mountain View.

In the WBAL, Notre Dame Belmont beat Castilleja 8-1 and Priory played Notre Dame San Jose to a 1-1 tie.
