City Beach General Manager and college recruiting coordinator Gary Mano, a former San Jose State assistant, has been named assistant coach for the Stanford women’s volleyball program, Cardinal coach Kevin Hambly announced Tuesday.

“As I processed how to replace Denise Corlett, who had an incredible amount of experience recruiting and coaching at Stanford, what stood out the most was just how unique admissions process is at Stanford for recruits,” Hambly said. “I wanted to find a person who understands what it is like for prospective student-athletes and parents to navigate at a high-academic institution like Stanford, and could also coach the athletes and potentially bring some continuity to the assistant coach position.”

Mano, who served as assistant coach and general manager of the men’s volleyball team at BYU (where Hambly played between 1992-95), arrives with a plethora of experience both in the collegiate and prep volleyball ranks.

In addition to his years at BYU, Mano served as an assistant and associate head coach at San Jose State from 1996-06 and since has been the general manager, club director, coach and college recruiting coordinator at City Beach in Santa Clara as well as owner of Truefield Recruiting Services in San Jose.

“I want to welcome Gary, his wife, Racquel, and his children, Reagan, Collin and Mason, to the Stanford family. We are excited they are joining us,” said Hambly. “Gary checked all the boxes and it became clear he was the best choice for the job. His experience navigating recruiting and admissions gave him a special level of empathy for that process. He can hit the ground running and will be a tremendous asset not only to our staff, but to future recruits and parents.”

At San Jose State, Mano helped lead the Spartans to three NCAA tournament appearances and four 20-win seasons. He played a large role in the recruiting process and coached several All-Western Athletic Conference players.

“I’m so excited to be able to join such a storied program,” Mano said. “I would like to thank Kevin Hambly, Beth Goode and Bernard Muir for entrusting me with the Stanford women’s volleyball legacy. I know we are going to work tirelessly to bring more titles to The Farm. I would also like to thank my wife, Racquel, for the support. I know there are going to be some major adjustments with our three kids, but we’re up to the challenge. Mostly, I’m looking forward to get going and work with this staff and student-athletes.”

Mano, who earned a bachelor’s degree in international marketing from BYU in 1992 and an MBA from San Jose State in 1999, and his family reside in San Jose.
