David Durante’s relatives in Italy rarely get the chance to see him compete. When they do, they take advantage of it.

The Stanford grad and U.S. champion, in Stuttgart, Germany for the World Championships, told the AP that a handful of aunts, uncles and cousins are taking the train from Rome to watch the American men compete on Tuesday. Durante’s parents will also be in the audience.

“It’s the first time they’ve been able to see me compete,” Durante said, referring to his Roman relatives.

They’re likely to see a lot more of him soon. Durante plans to move to Rome after the Beijing Olympics. He even has an apartment there already.

Stanford junior Sho Nakamori, who was third in the all-around at the U.S. championships, is the alternate.
