CONFERENCE FOR CAREGIVERS ... On June 24, Avenidas will host a conference designed to support and educate family caregivers, solo agers, health care and social service professionals, as well as community members about both the challenges and the opportunities in their care journeys. The all-day event, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be held at the Mountain View Senior Center, 266 Escuela St., Mountain View. Tickets are $25 until June 23 and $30 at the door. To register go to avenidas.org and search for "conference." The keynote speaker will be Mukund Acharya, Ph.D., a healthy-aging advocate. He is the founder of Sandhya's Touch, a nonprofit that provides grants to improve the quality of life for those dealing with serious or chronic illness. He also co-founded Sukham, a nonprofit organization focusing on aging in the area's South Asian community. He volunteers at Stanford Hospital and School of Medicine, supporting palliative-care efforts, and is a caregiver support coach.
TRIP TO THE OPERA ... On Sunday, June 4, and Sunday, June 18, the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center will offer adult trips to San Francisco to see two San Francisco operas, Richard Strauss' "Die Frau ohne Schatten" and Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." EAST PALO ALTO SENIORS ... The East Palo Alto Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities, classes and assistance to seniors. Staff provide information about housing, household help, recreation, financial assistance and health services. Health screenings are offered frequently, and a noon meal is served Monday through Friday. Transportation is also available for doctors' appointments and errands.
