Originally from Europe, we have enjoyed many pedestrian zones and promenades in a number of countries. They usually contribute to a city's charm and promote, rather than hamper, business.
We have always shopped on California Avenue and frequently go there for dinner. Of course, the pandemic changed the shopping part drastically. It would be wonderful to have a variety of shops back and more permanent park-like features to attract visitors and customers. The city of Palo Alto and all stakeholders can contribute to transforming this space into a welcoming, attractive and active pedestrian zone.
We wholeheartedly support California Avenue remaining a permanent promenade.
