Turning lives around

VA program has a long history of helping veterans get a fresh start

by Eric He

Plastered in bold letters on the wall of the welcome center of the Menlo Park Veterans Affairs (VA) complex — a sprawling campus just off U.S. Highway 101 — the message is clear: "I create what happens to me."

Volunteer is a registered user.

I volunteer part time at the Menlo VA, and I have to say that the veterans in this program are very lucky indeed.

The apartments they provide are new, quite modern and comfortable.

Nice to see homeless vets getting something a little more in line with the service and sacrifice they gave to their country.

Incidentally, it would be remiss of me to not mention that many of these once-homeless veterans have had traumatic brain injuries, lost limbs, or have spinal and other injuries affecting their ability to walk.
