Would wider sidewalks on El Camino Real make you more likely to use them as a pedestrian? Why or why not?

Asked at the corner of El Camino Real and California Avenue. Question and interviews by Lena Pressesky.

Steve Thompson

Cowper Street, Palo Alto

Software developer

"I think they're fine as they are, ... but if there's a lot of bike traffic, potentially, ... but my knee-jerk reaction is no."

Kat Rios

Ballard Drive, Fremont

Executive support

"I use them whether they're wide or not. A smaller sidewalk wouldn't prevent me from using them."

Maria Zych

Sheridan Avenue, Palo Alto

"I'm unable to drive the car anymore, ... but the only area I walk is California Avenue."

William Butler

Rhodes Drive, Palo Alto

"No. They've done enough to these roads. They should repair the roads first. I wouldn't even want to widen (California Avenue's) sidewalks."

Andy Smith

Marina Court, San Mateo

"I wouldn't say that if they're wider I'd be more inclined to use them, ... but in some areas it would be nicer to have them wider, like for bikes."
