ORCHID SUCCESS ... Weegie Caughlan, the "orchid lady," will teach a class on "Growing Cymbidium Orchids" from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, in the Gamble Garden Carriage House, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. The class will deal with ideal growing conditions, including temperature, sunlight, medium, watering, feeding and pest control. Cost is $40 for nonmembers, $30 for members. SPRING FLING ... Filoli, at 86 Canada Road, Woodside, will offer a sneak peek at its greenhouses, as well as kid's activities and garden tours, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, during Spring Fling. Other activities include a dog-agility demonstration, indoor floral displays created by Filoli volunteers, magic tricks and a puppet show, as well as refreshments. GROW YOUR VEGGIES ... John Jeavons, executive director of Ecology Action and author of "How to Grow More Vegetables," will teach two classes on Saturday, March 31, at Common Ground, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. "Seed Propagation," from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will deal with Grow Biointensive techniques, including transplanting, pricking out seedlings from flats and watering. "Double-Digging and Bed Preparation," from 2 to 4 p.m., including a hands-on demonstration at the Common Ground Demonstration Garden, will cover what makes healthy soil. Each class is $31.
