Robert Leroy Knight
Dec. 4, 1922-Nov. 18, 2017
Palo Alto, California

Robert “Bob” Knight, a 66-year resident of the Barron Park neighborhood of Palo Alto, California, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Nov. 18, 2017.

Born in the small town of Randall, Minnesota, Bob took an interest early on in the field of engineering and would soon go on to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. He then served from July 12, 1943, to March 1, 1946, in the U.S. Army as a captain in the Signal Corps. Once home, his love of engineering would lead him to a successful 30-year career with Bechtel Corporation, traveling the world with his wife of over 71 years, Therese.

Bob enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, golfing, traveling, building furniture and camping with family and friends. He was an involved neighbor, never short of good advice or the energy to help build new additions or re-wire their homes in his spare time. But more than anything, Bob was a devoted family man. Together, he and Therese would raise six children and build the family cabin at Donner Lake, which served as the site for many a gathering -- summer and winter. With all six children and their families living just a short distance away, the home in Palo Alto was always a bustling hub of activity, with countless gatherings to welcome family over the decades.

Bob is survived by his six children and their spouses: Bob Knight, Dennis and Lonnie Knight, Rick and Carol Knight, Margaret Olivier, Terry Knight and Mary Dandridge; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by three grandchildren; Ken Knight, Christine Dandridge and Caroline Dandridge.
