Current Sacred Heart Prep senior Tierna Davidson already knows what she’ll be doing next November during her freshman year at Stanford University. She’ll be playing soccer.
While Davidson is expected to be a member of the Cardinal women’s team, she also should be in Papua, New Guinea as a member of the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team that will be competing in the 2016 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Davidson and her teammates qualified for next year’s tournament after defeating Honduras, 7-0, on Friday in the semifinals of the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
The U-20 WNT will face Canada for the tournament title on Sunday at 4 p.m. PT (FOX Sports 2). Canada defeated Mexico, 5-4, on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw in the other semifinal Friday. The wins earned the USA and Canada automatic berths to the 2016 U-20 Women’s World Cup, which be held from Nov. 13-Dec. 3 in New Guinea. The winner of the third-place match between Mexico and Honduras also will qualify.
Davidson started on defense for the USA, which dominated the first half and put ample pressure on the Honduras defense. The young Americans finally got on the board in the 33rd minute and then again two minutes later. A goal in the 38th minute wrapped things up.
The U.S. didn’t let up in the second half, scoring three goals during regulation and one more in stoppage time.
