Jaylen Jasper and Jordan Ewert combined for 29 kills and the 11th-ranked Stanford men’s volleyball team downed visiting No. 7 Ohio State, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, in a nonconference match Saturday at Burnham Pavilion.

Paul Bischoff recorded 37 assists and nine digs for the Cardinal (4-0), which hosts UC Irvine in a nonconference match at 7 p.m. Thursday inside Maples Pavilion.

There were 16 lead changes and 36 times the score was tied through the match as Stanford hit .360 to the Buckeyes’ .311.

Men’s tennis

No. 10 Stanford breezed past Saint Mary’s 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, the match was moved up one day with expected rain in the forecast.

After the Cardinal swept the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, Stanford quickly sealed the match with three dominant victories.

Axel Geller and Alexandre Rotsaert posted identical 6-1, 6-0 wins at the top of the lineup before Jack Barber provided the clincher with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph on court five.

With the match decided, Stanford then received straight-set victories from Timothy Sah, William Genesen and Michael Genender.

Stanford returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Santa Clara at 3 p.m.
