Menlo women's golf signs South San Francisco student

The Menlo College women's golf team continues to add depth to its roster with the addition of Catherine Batang as the latest signing for Director of Golf Mike Givens. This comes at a time when the program is off to a record start to the 2018-19 season and is only expected to continue rising.

A South San Francisco High senior, Batang has accumulated several accolades. She is a three-time team captain for the Warriors. Her lowest round in competition is a 73.

Batang competed in the 2016 Nature Valley First Tee Open in a field of 81 teenagers and 81 PGA Tour Champions players. She also qualified for the 2018 U.S. Girls' Junior Open at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.

Off the links, she is the Executive Student Body President at South City, an honor roll student, and a two-time member of the Mock Trial team.

"I have had the opportunity to watch Catherine practice a few times. Her self-discipline, love for the game and her ability to pay attention to detail impressed me," Givens said. "In addition, her work ethic and experience as a three-year team captain will absolutely help provide the Menlo College women's golf team the opportunity to battle for the Golden State Athletic Conference title in the near future."

Menlo resumes competitive play March 4-5, when it heads to Palm Springs for the Marymount Spring Invite.
