Sam Untrecht scored five goals and Menlo School swamped Mills, 15-1, in a battle of Peninsula Athletic League boys water polo division leaders Thursday at Woodside in the semifinal round of the PAL tournament.

Menlo-Atherton downed the Wildcats, 7-4, and will advance to Saturday’s championship match against the Knights (19-7) at 4:45 p.m. at M-A.

Connor MacMitchell added three goals and Greg Hilderbrand and Chris Ponterio each scored twice for Menlo.

Michael Heller led the Bears (12-12) past Woodside (18-7) with four goals. Zachary de Haaff added a pair and Cooper Gran also scored. Andrew Mills scored twice for the Wildcats while Joe Untrecht and Aidan Seed also netted goals.

Woodside and Mills (21-5) play for third place at 2:15 p.m. Saturday. The fifth-place game at 11:45 p.m. features Half Moon Bay and Hillsdale while Carlmont and Burlingame meet for seventh place at 9:15 a.m.

Menlo will be going for its 26th PAL title dating to 1982. The Knights have won 21 of the previous 23 titles, with Menlo-Atherton earning titles in 2012 and 2014. The Knights have won four straight and six of seven overall.

On the girls side, Castilleja will be going for its fifth consecutive PAL title. The Gators had never won a league title prior to 2014.

Castilleja beat Woodside, 9-0, in a semifinal contest at Menlo on Thursday and plays for the championship at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at M-A against Menlo School (18-10), which beat Aragon, 10-7.

Sarah Pedley and Abena Ofori-Nyako combined to pitch the shutout against the Wildcats, netting a total of 12 saves.

Minhee Chung scored three goals to lead the Gators (19-5) while Lexi Triantis and Claire Pisani each scored a pair. Anjali Kambham also scored.

Madison Lewis scored a goal, recorded an assist and contributed a team-high four steals fort Castilleja. Talua Seale had two assists and Stacy Abonce had two steals.

West Catholic Athletic League

Walker Seymour scored three goals and Sacred Heart Prep scored seven of the first eight goals en route to an 11-4 victory over St. Ignatius in Thursday’s WCAL tournament at St. Francis.

Kyle Ballack and Will Riley each added a pair of goals for the Gators.

Sacred Heart Prep (23-2) meets Bellarmine (18-6) in Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. game Saturday.

Nellie McAdams, Megan Norris and the Sacred Heart Prep defense held Mitty scoreless for almost 18 minutes in building a six-goal lead en route to a 9-3 victory in the semifinals of the league tournament Thursday at St. Francis.

Ella Woodhead scored two of her game-high four goals in the first quarter. Isabella Bachler, who finished with three goals, and Eleanor Facey also scored early goals.

Kate Brandin scored Sacred Heart Prep’s final goal with an assist from Norris. The Gators produced assists on eight of the nine goals, led by Bachler’s three. Alexandra Szczerba and Woodhead each added a pair of assists and Ashley Penner had one.

Olivia Smith, Madeline Johnson and Woodhead each recorded two steals for the Gators (19-6), who meet St. Francis in the championship game at St. Francis at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Last year, the Lancers (14-11) upset Sacred Heart Prep in the league tournament.

Santa Clara Valley Athletic League

The Gunn girls team edged host Los Altos, 7-6, in the semifinals of the SCVAL tournament Thursday and will meet regular-season champion Los Gatos in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday at Los Altos, with an automatic bid into the CCS tournament at stake.

The Titans split with both Los Altos and Los Gatos during the regular season.

Hana Erickson scored three goals to help Palo Alto beat Fremont, 8-1, on Thursday.

On the boys side, Gunn downed Lynbrook 8-7 at Mountain View and will play a consolation game Saturday, also at Mountain View.

Palo Alto lost to host Mountain View, the regular-season champion, 10-7, on Thursday and will play for third-place Saturday.
