Rain forecast to return Wednesday

Wet weather to pair with gusts of up to 50 mph

Rain is expected to return to the San Francisco Bay Area Wednesday morning, National Weather Service officials said.

At about sunrise Wednesday, light to moderate rain will begin to fall in the North Bay and increase in intensity through the afternoon before spreading south through the rest of the Bay Area later in the day.

Southerly winds will accompany the rain, bringing gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph in the morning and afternoon to some coastal areas and higher elevations.

Up to 2 inches of rain is possible in isolated areas in the North Bay.

A quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain is forecast for most urban areas. For commuters, that means slick roads and ponding in some areas.

Rain may last into Thursday. Skies are expected to be clear for Friday and Saturday, according to weather officials.
