The King's Academy Anna Mokkapati has a lot in common with Menlo School's Kyra Pretre and Sacred Heart Prep's Luci Lambert.
All three are elite cross country runners in the West Bay Athletic League, finishing 1-2-3 in the league championships.
All three were teammates with the Woodside Wildebeests, a running club for middle school ages.
Mokkapati, who won the WBAL girls race in 17:48.9, has been described as humble, gentle and kind. She's also a Woodside resident. That came to light in an impassioned e-mail by a reader.
Following an e-mail exchange with TKA Athletic Director Kevin Johnson, we will work together moving forward in identifying local athletes.
"We'll do the best we can," Johnson wrote. "We don't always know off hand where all our athletes live as we have kids from Gilroy to San Mateo."
It's common for local athletes to attend private school outside the coverage area and go unnoticed.
Menlo, Castilleja and Sacred Heart Prep finished 1-2-3 in the team race, with TKA finishing fourth.
Ten of the top 13 individual runners are from schools within the Online Sports coverage area, and so they and their schools are the focus.
There's also an effort to highlight team results, which means highlighting all five scoring members of a cross country team. There are also two other important runners on each team who can also affect the score.
So, yes it would be nice to honor the contributions and recognize the hard work of Mokkapati, also an outstanding track and field athlete.
Even she, I'm willing to bet, thinks of team first, teaching us all a lesson.
