Kristina Bassi, a fifth-year senior from nearby Mountain View, recorded her first career hat trick and the 17th-ranked Stanford field hockey team turned back visiting Cal, 4-0, Sunday in America East Conference action.
The Cardinal (9-7, 3-2) played with desperation in the first half, hurling 10 shots toward the Bears cage. Stanford took the lead in the 19th minute when Phoebe Crosthwaite, who dominated the baseline, sent a perfect pass to Bassi, who hit pay dirt for a 1-0 edge.

Bassi struck again, with nearly a minute left as Frances Carstens juked a defender to send a ball across that Bassi finished to send it to the break with a 3-0 Cardinal lead.
Stanford's defense found its rhythm again in its second shutout of the season and the 10th of Kelsey Bing's career.
With the Cardinal in control of the game, Bassi cemented the hat trick as she took a cross from Zanolli and pushed it across the circle.
Stanford completes the regular-season on Saturday, hosting UC Davis at 6 p.m. in a conference contest.
