Carusa's late score gives Stanford a soccer victory

Kyra Carusa scored in the final four minutes to lift the top-ranked Stanford women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Washington in a Pac-12 Conference contest on Friday.

Carusa finished a cross from Michelle Xiao, who collected the ball on the left wing from Sacred Heart Prep grad Tierna Davidson, curled a cross to the near post, and Carusa's soft touch was enough to beat the Washington keeper.

Lauren Rood finished the night with three saves, including one shortly after Stanford's goal, for her sixth shutout.

Washington responded to Stanford's goal by creating a scoring opportunity inside the penalty area, only to be denied by a fantastic save from Rood, who has coughed up one goal all year.

Stanford returns to action Thursday with a game against visiting Oregon at 6 p.m. The game will broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks,
